Ireland is filled with “hidden” places. Unique and magical spots just off the roadways- sometimes just yards from where you are passing.
Wouldn't it be nice to know what is along that drive from Dublin to Killarney? Or from Galway to Belfast?
Plan Your Irish Jaunts with the My Discover Ireland Interactive Map
Using the My Discover Ireland mapping tool, you can input your beginning point and your final destination. The map creates your route and shows you attractions along the way, based on the criteria you choose.
After you have your route, you can zoom in and hover over the icons to get more information about the attraction.
After you have your route planned, you can easily email it or share it through social networks.
While this is a really nice tool, it does have some short falls.
The first being that routes from Point A to Point B. So if you are going from Galway to Dublin, the map routes you directly. At this time you cannot add other “points”. So if you want to go from Galway to Dublin via Clonmacnoise, Lough Boora, Kinnitty and Tullamore, you would have to plan each leg of the journey separately.
The second issue is that many terrific attractions are simply not on the map. For instance, Lough Gur- one of the most magical places in Ireland- has no icons (even when you map it specifically). And if you travel from Killarney to Dingle, you have make on of the peninsula towns your destination to get any of the incredible destinations on the peninsula- and even then many seem to be absent. Of course you'll find many, many places listed (over 700); plenty for a first or even forth visit to Ireland. And it is easy to add a place with the button at the top right of the page.
The My Discover Ireland route planning tool is handy, especially for first time visitors to Ireland. I expect more features to be added in the future- as well as more attractions- which will make this a very handy Ireland travel tool, indeed.
