There's no way around the fact that Ireland can be an expensive place to vacation. The cost of getting there takes a huge chunk of your vacation budget. Add in lodging, rental car, and eating and you've spent quite a bit of money.
Luckily there are a large number of activities and sites that are free in Ireland.
Balancing the Fee with the Free in Ireland
If you have planned a budget for your Ireland vacation, you have a good idea about how much money you have to spend on activities. The next step is to figure out what you really “must” see.
Next see if there is a way to save on the fee based attractions. Check their websites- do they have a discounted rate at a certain time? Can you buy a savings card like the OPW Heritage Card? Are there partner deals like Shannon Heritage offers? Doing just a bit of homework can save you quite a bit of money.
After you've decided on your main attractions, then begin to fill in with the incredible free sites. There are more than you think!
Instead of listing them all here, I've created a Free in Ireland Pinterest board. Here you'll find articles with terrific lists on free events and activities in Ireland, as well as individual site listings – which you will be able to see placed on the map. Very helpful for Ireland vacation planning!
