Kilmalkader Churchyard is one of my favorite places on the Dingle Peninsula.  The early Christian cross, sundial, and large ogham stone may catch the eye of the visitor, but I love the tales behind the “holed stones”, like the one on the left of the photo.

Some say the stones were associated with regeneration and healing while others tell that a promise made when two people joined fingers passed through the hole could never be broken.  According to local lore many couples said vows over such a stone.
