The protected peninsula of Rosses Point, reaching from Sligo like a small hand between Sligo Harbour and Drumcliff Bay, is a well known local holiday spot. The sandy beach, ocean-side golf course, and marina, draw families searching for an active, yet relaxing, break. Yeats Country Hotel, the only hotel at the end of the quiet peninsula, is a perfect spot for visitors looking to get off the tourist trail along the Wild Atlantic Way. Our three night stay gave us just a taste of this fabulous area and comfort of this full service hotel in Sligo.
A Family Stay at Yeats Country Hotel in Sligo
A single main road leads you to the end of Rosses Point from Sligo. Yeats Country Hotel sits at the highest point of the peninsula's end, a great, stately building keeping watch of the ocean.
Our family room, with two very comfortable queen beds and an added twin, was spacious; longer than it was wide, with plenty of storage and a view over Sligo Harbour and Coney Island.
Both breakfast and dinner were included with our stay. Breakfast, served as a buffet, had everything you could want… choosing the fixings for an Irish breakfast was easy. As was choosing only your favorite parts (as my youngest did).
But dinner was where the restaurant really shone. Beautifully presented meals followed by melt-in-your-mouth delicious desserts were presented nightly. The small menu, created daily, highlighted locally fresh ingredients. Each night we sent our very sincere compliments to the chef.

For Kids at Yeats Country Hotel
My girls love a good hotel pool and the pool in the leisure centre at Yeats Country Hotel thrilled them. Beautifully divided into shallow and deeper areas, as well as lap lanes, the girls could splash or swim to their hearts content.
But I'll be honest… pools aren't my favorite thing, so I was very happy to see a lovely seating area with an open view of the pool where I could comfortably catch up on work while they splashed.
Yeats Country Hotel also offers the go! kids! club for kids from toddler to teen- a fun and handy option when the weather doesn't cooperate with outdoor plans or mom & dad just want some adult time alone.
Evenings at Yeats Country Hotel
Our early June stay meant long days and beautiful evenings. Wrapping up dinner while the sun was still hours from setting showed me just how special Rosses Point is. After dinner I would cajole my daughters into joining me for a walk, exploring along Sligo Harbour one evening, then out to the long stretch of sandy beach protecting Drumcliff Bay the next. During these strolls we met locals and visitors all out for the same thing- a peaceful ending to a beautiful day. A simple “Hello” often led to a short chat as the sun leisurely descended toward the ocean. The beauty of the area after most daily visitors had left… the still water and quiet paths… it was as near perfection as you'll find – and a very compelling reason to choose this hotel in Sligo.
