Want to tour Ireland at your own pace, but you don't want to drive? You should definitely consider hiring a driver guide in Ireland!

I love everything about planning an Ireland vacation.  From finding airfare deals to arranging our transportation to mapping our destinations…  I love it all.

And I especially love driving in Ireland!

But, to be honest, planning an Ireland itinerary can be very time consuming.  And, if you don't love it, very overwhelming.

And a self drive vacation in Ireland is not for everyone. Driving on the left + winding, narrow roads can make your vacation more stressful than relaxing.

So what is the traveler to Ireland to do if they don't want to do all the planning, but want to have the flexibility to make suggestions and changes?

Hiring a Driver Guide in Ireland

I personally used Ireland Chauffeur Travel for my small group guided tours and highly recommend them for private driver guided tours of Ireland.

Based in Cashel, Tipperary, Ireland Chauffeur Travel offers chauffeur driven tours ranging from day trips to complete tours across Ireland. The company can even create your entire vacation, including booking accommodations (and obtaining competitive pricing at 5 star hotels, manor houses and castles), reserving dining, and attraction visits.

About Ireland Chauffeur Travel

Shane Leahy is both the owner of Ireland Chauffeur Travel as well as one of the driver guides.  Says Shane,

We are a family business with three members of the same family working directly in the business. We started doing small groups of two and four persons (mostly couples) and as our business grew we developed more for family tours as families love to travel together and nowadays multigenerational travel is very common to Ireland, especially from the USA.

The advantages are having your own luxury touring coach and your own driver guide who acts as a liaison and a guide for all the family to ensure everybody gets to do what they want (within reason).

The guide is great for the parents and grandparents as he takes the pressure not just off the driving but also the decision making so they have more time just to relax and have fun – which is what the travel is all about.

Ireland Chauffeur Travel are moving towards more experiential family tours which involve activities such as hiking, biking, walking and horseback riding. We also arrange cookery demonstrations, pottery making, sheep dog demonstrations, so the family leaves Ireland relaxed and also educated as to the culture, lifestyle and skills of the people.

We also book the best places to eat, drink and listen to music as well as recommend shopping and hard to find places where clients can enjoy authentic experiences.

My Experiences with Ireland Chauffeur Travel

As I mentioned above, Ireland Chauffeur Travel is the company I partner with for my guided tour of Ireland.

I like that fact that I am working with a family owned business who takes the time to learn about my own goals for the trip as well as help me create memorable experiences for my guests.

I worked with Ireland Chauffeur travel to design the perfect itinerary then Michelle, my personal consultant, and Alma handled all of the bookings – from whiskey experiences and tours to accommodations and dining.

Once everything was in place all I had to do was sit back and relax!

I know that guides from Ireland Chauffeur Travel are going to be incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly. The vehicles are all top-of-the-line, well maintained, and very comfortable.

During A Celtic Experience 2019 our private guide, Paul, went ‘above and beyond'. He was the most memorable part of the tour, entertaining everyone with wonderful stories of the areas we visited, as well as filling in history and answering even the most random questions about Ireland.

In addition to driving Paul also handled our bags, dealt with any issues that arose (not that there were many as our tour was so well planned!), and kept us on schedule if we had places we needed to be at a certain time.

On a past trip I used Ireland Chauffeur Travel for a day tour around the Skellig Ring, a side trip from the Ring of Kerry.

As we drove the very narrow roads our driver knew the best spots at the side of the road to pull off for terrific photos, the tastiest places to eat, and even took us to a high cliff with spectacular views of Skellig Michael. Many of these were spots that only the locals would know and made our tour in such a popular location very memorable and uncrowded.

Ireland Chauffeur Travel is truly a ‘one stop shop' if you want a chauffeured Ireland vacation with every aspect booked for you.

  1. This is how we traveled around Ireland in 2014… we had Shane for our driver for a couple of days, then when he had to go take care of some family business, we got Bill Coyne… both drivers were extremely knowledgeable & entertaining… such a great experience… & dealing with Orla (Shane’s sister) in the before-trip preparations was a joy…

Ireland Chauffeur Travel does such an incredible job! Thanks so much for sharing your experiences Leslie!

Our family of 4 are taking a side trip to Ireland before attending a wedding in Scotland. Our tour package includes a rental car and staying at the Adare Manor Villa for 6 nights. (11-21-2015 til 11-27-2105) Would like to hire a driver to drive our rental car during that time. Are you able to provide a drive, and if so, what would be the cost?

Hi Janet. I’m not sure if you understand that I am not a travel agent, so your question actually needs to be directed at the tourism company – Ireland Chauffeur Travel- directly: [email protected]
