When you close your eyes and picture Ireland, what do you see? If the answer includes round towers and high crosses, then you’ll want to be sure Clonmacnoise in County Offaly is part of your Ireland itinerary. Located in the heart of Ireland at what once was a major crossroads where the north/south route of the…
The Burren, famous for its barrenness, is one of the most unique places in Ireland. Its limestone terrain, hardy vegetation, and rugged animals, both wild and domestic, make the Burren a contrast. Barren limestone gives way to open grazing land. The limestone cliffs drop abruptly into the ocean. And beauty appears out of nowhere. Too often…

Drivers of vehicles of all sorts seem to be rich sources of information, don’t they? What a fun way to travel!
That looks like so much fun! It’s been years since I’ve been to Killarney and I would so love to take my kids to Ireland.

Touristy? Maybe. But still a delight, I’m sure.
I agree, carriages are touristy, but I love them too. The kids love it, it’s fun, and makes sightseeing easy.
I knew immediately when I read this that I had heard the term jaunting cart before. It’s in a song from the old Disney movie the Gnomemobile. The proper Irish gnomes sing about riding along in a jaunting cart. And now I know what one looks like! Thanks for sharing.
I may be touristy, but it sure looks like fun!
Love the term “jaunting cart” 🙂
What fun! Sometimes people get so worked up about not doing the “touristy” thing that they forget they’re usually fun (otherwise why would tourists do them??)
