Our first visit to Glendalough in 2008 focused on the Monastic City. The cold and wet March day was much more suitable to learning about St. Kevin in the visitors center and hot tea in the nearby hotel restaurant than explorations beyond the stone churches. Finally following up that visit in 2015, our day began…

Yes! Family travel in Ireland is possible! No land is more filled with magic than Ireland. Even if you’re past the age of believing in fairies (though I don’t think you should ever stop believing in fairies) the moment your flight touches down on Irish soil a feeling of possibility washes over you. You just don’t…
The Cliffs of Moher has been one of Ireland’s top tourist attractions for at least 200 years. O’Brien’s Tower was built as a viewing spot in 1835. And though the view from the cliffs doesn’t change, the thrill of visiting has yet to waiver. I’ve visited the Cliffs of Moher three times- and never has…
It had been just over a year since our last visit to Clifden, Connemara in the western-most reaches of County Galway. My husband and mother were with us this trip, which gave us an incentive to return to the area, though one never really needs a reason to return to the beauty that is Connemara….
I’ve had the great fortune to drive the Dingle Peninsula twice; the first time in 2002 when I made my first trip- solo- to Ireland, and more recently with my daughters. Each time the breathtaking scenery has left me entranced. Photo after photo of rugged shorelines, crashing waves, and sites so ancient the time elapsed…

Drivers of vehicles of all sorts seem to be rich sources of information, don’t they? What a fun way to travel!
That looks like so much fun! It’s been years since I’ve been to Killarney and I would so love to take my kids to Ireland.
We rode in a carriage several times while in Dublin – loved it!

Touristy? Maybe. But still a delight, I’m sure.
I agree, carriages are touristy, but I love them too. The kids love it, it’s fun, and makes sightseeing easy.
I knew immediately when I read this that I had heard the term jaunting cart before. It’s in a song from the old Disney movie the Gnomemobile. The proper Irish gnomes sing about riding along in a jaunting cart. And now I know what one looks like! Thanks for sharing.
I may be touristy, but it sure looks like fun!
Love the term “jaunting cart” 🙂
What fun! Sometimes people get so worked up about not doing the “touristy” thing that they forget they’re usually fun (otherwise why would tourists do them??)
