I am wondering about car rentals. What would be the best place to start looking for car rentals for a family of 5?
Answer:
When renting a car myself, I like to use Irish Car Rentals, mainly because you can purchase the excess insurance online and not have the fees payable when you land. If you are booking your trip through an Irish tourism company, they will have preferred vendors. Just be aware of the CDW costs that need to be paid when you land. (Averaging €18-25 per day.)
Though car names may be different in Ireland, you'll be able to find plenty of information on any of the car rental websites, along with photos to help you choose they type of car that will fit your family. A few things to remember:
- Rural Irish roads tend to be narrow. Pick the smallest car you can comfortably fit your family into.
- In Ireland you pay for fuel by the litre. Filling the gas tank of a mid-size car can easily cost €70 – or nearly $100!
- Most cars in Ireland are manual transmission. If you want an automatic, it will cost more.
- The M50 is a toll road outside Dublin. The toll is taken automatically. Inquire with your rental company on whether they will bill this to you or if you need to pay it yourself. Toll payments are due within 24 hours.
