Final Day in Ireland- Spring 2024

Our final day in Ireland was a long one… After a walk into Killarney National Park to visit Muckross Abbey (it had finally stopped raining!) we drove to County Kildare and our final accommodation at Carton House.

Muckross Abbey in Killarney National Park

It's about a 1km walk from the closest car park to Muckross Abbey. You can climb up to the tower which offers beautiful views down into the building and into the surrounding parkland.

The focal point of the abbey is the ancient yew tree in the center of the cloister.

Kerry Woolen Mill

Kerry Woolen Mill is just a bit off the official Ring of Kerry Route, as you leave Killarney and make your way toward Killorglin and Dingle. The small, charming shop has quite a few locally made treasures you may not find elsewhere.

Carton House, a Fairmont Managed Property

Our final night was spent at Carton House, located in Maynooth, County Kildare. Arranged by my luxury partner, Ireland Chauffeur Travel, this 5 star property is under 45 minutes from the airport. I think that makes it ideal for a first stop when arriving in Ireland, if you don't wish to go into Dublin.

If you plan to use Carton House for your final night in Ireland I recommend it only if your flight departs after noon so you have time to enjoy breakfast.
Unfortunately our flight left too early so we did not get to enjoy breakfast before leaving.

  1. Thank you so much for your informative and entertaining posts! Planning a trip with my daughter later June/early July and have the hotels and itinerary pretty set. My daughter did not want to do a travel group; however, I’m not really up for lugging suitcase on/off bus and trains and we do not plan to drive. You’ve mentioned your travel partner, Ireland Chauffeur Travel, and I’m wondering if they do hired cars for a day. I would like to hire a car/driver for the drive from Dublin to Galway and then another day for the trip from Doolin to Dublin. If Ireland Chauffeur Travel do not offer day trips, can you recommend this type of service? Thanks, Susan
