Playing in Ireland’s Largest Tree House at Birr Castle

It had only been a year since our first visit to Birr Castle Demense and a return wasn’t initially in our plans. Until I received an invitation to come play at their newest attraction.

But, as luck would have it, we had just returned from Ireland mere days before – a return trip just wasn’t possible.

Life, however, has a way of working out and, in early October I again found myself in Ireland to attend a conference. My husband and daughters joined me after the conference ended and I was able to surprise my girls with a visit to Ireland’s largest tree house at Birr Castle!

What kid can resist such a magical structure?

With glass windows and a bit of insulation, I think I would happily live here!

Just because the tree house isn’t up a tree doesn’t mean you don’t have to climb to get in… ropes, ladders, crazy steps in a tower. ..

My husband even explored the highest reaches!

My youngest shot this view from the tree house back toward the converted stables.

She also shot this video of herself and her sister descending the narrow tower. You may not want to watch if you get motion sickness.

If the kids get tired of playing in the tree house, the new bounce pillow will keep them busy and get rid of any excess energy.

Birr Castle makes a fun family outing – the science center is engaging and interesting, the grounds are extensive and inviting, and the Great Telescope is nothing short of astounding. And while the play area we enjoyed last year was nice, the addition of the magical tree house is like a glorious cherry on top of an already perfect sundae.
